Applications In NeuroDevelopment: Child Reflexes: Motor Development and Milestones (13-15 months)
The MINDS Group lecture series on Child Motor Milestones continues with this discussion on the development of 13- to 15-month-olds. These babies are becoming more adept at navigating their environment in standing and walking and are further exploring their use of space through climbing and exploring elevations inside and outside of their home. Fine motor skills are becoming more refined for manipulating toys, preparing for more expansive cognitive and language development.
This lecture will present the motor milestones, discuss their biomechanics, and explain which reflexes and archetypal movements are foundational for their development. Without this proper foundation, motor skills will remain immature, be delayed, or be compensatory in nature, which will impede future skills in all areas of development.
